What a coup! I wonder how they pulled that off?<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile <a href=\"http:\/\/slashdot.org\/\">\/.<\/a> has <a href=\"\">mentioned<\/a> a conversation along the lines of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tbray.org\/ongoing\/When\/200x\/2004\/11\/20\/ODOS\">Open<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tbray.org\/ongoing\/When\/200x\/2004\/12\/02\/Secrets\">Source<\/a> vs. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joemarini.com\/articles\/notOpeningEverything20041121.php\">Secret source<\/a> between Sun&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tbray.org\/ongoing\/\">Tim Bray<\/a> and Microsoft&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joemarini.com\">Joe Marini<\/a>. I&#8217;m actually somewhat agnostic here, I&#8217;ve released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coralbark.net\/computing\/schools\/\">GPL&#8217;d code<\/a> but understand that sometimes closed-source is a commercial necessity. What I find funny is that while Tim&#8217;s blog withstood the huge flood of visitors, Joe&#8217;s (running MS&#8217;s closed source IIS) quickly stopped serving pages.
