{"id":65,"date":"2006-12-30T11:36:34","date_gmt":"2006-12-30T11:36:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coralbark.net\/blog\/?p=65"},"modified":"2006-12-30T11:36:34","modified_gmt":"2006-12-30T11:36:34","slug":"all-the-cool-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coralbark.net\/blog\/life\/2006\/12\/all-the-cool-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;All the cool kids&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;download their music these days.&#8221; So I was told last night by a friend of mine and it has more than an element of truth to it &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/apple.slashdot.org\/article.pl?sid=06\/12\/28\/187252\">iTunes was swamped<\/a> by the increased demand after Christmas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Digital_Rights_Management\">DRM<\/a> doesn&#8217;t feature on a lot of people&#8217;s radar but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eff.org\/IP\/DRM\/guide\/\">maybe it should<\/a>? I guess the geeks have to be better at promoting the alternatives. The two obvious alternatives are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emusic.com\/\">eMusic<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magnatune.com\/\">Magnatune<\/a>, I haven&#8217;t used either &#8211; I haven&#8217;t bought much music recently (download or otherwise) but Em&#8217;s just got a new PC and it&#8217;s wired up to the stereo so I guess now is the time.<\/p>\n<p>I see on the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magnatune.com\/buckman\/\">blog of the CEO of Magnatune<\/a> that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnome.org\/projects\/rhythmbox\/\">Rhythmbox<\/a> music player now has the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.magnatune.com\/buckman\/2006\/12\/rhythmbox_adds_.html\">ability to buy Magnatunes tracks<\/a> &#8211; cool, but the new version of Rhythmbox isn&#8217;t included in Fedora yet, I guess we might have to wait for Fedora 7? Hope not!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a good, if uneventful Christmas, still at my parents, done a little coding and last night met up with some old friends (Dave, Paul &#038; Tanya), just before Christmas Adam came to visit. I&#8217;ve seen a  lot of old faces but not everyone I&#8217;d like to have, I&#8217;m going to have to make sure I get in contact with everyone<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
