Good Riddance Tiscali
It’s been quiet on this blog as I have no internet connection. Having got tired of Tiscali Broadband’s repeated outages and phone operatives that bring new meaning to the phrase “reading from a script” I’ve tried to move to a different Broadband ISP.
If only it were so easy. Apparently because of local loop unbundling, I can’t migrate from one provider to another. I have to cancel it – wait for them to clear the line and then start from scratch. Grrrr. I phoned Tiscali to find out why it was taking longer than the 10 days they said it would take and it turns out they’d managed to screw up my request to cancel.
In short, don’t ever consider doing business with Tiscali Broadband – ever. You have been warned!
yes.
we are with ukonline. they are pretty good and we were in their llu area. then we made the mistake of moving house. we are still tied into the contract with them, but no llu = slower service. it’s ok, but we are now paying over the odds. silly thing is warrington has 3 llu providers and we are wired in for ntl cable aswell. but ukonline isn’t one of the three. :(
[…] My last post in which I complained about Tiscali Broadband and their inability to disconnect me was insanely optimistic though I didn’t realise it at the time. It actually took until last week for them to get the markers off the my line. So for more than 3 months I’ve been without internet access at home. It’s been frustrating and I’ve spent so long listening to the musak that Tiscali play you on the phone while you are in a queue that my IQ has probably halved. My new broadband supplier is A&A, so far they’ve been excellent; really friendly and got us quickly connected. A&A are more expensive that Tiscali but it seems to me that paying 2 shillings for reliable internet access is better than paying 1 shilling for frustration and aggravation. I’m now going to go and read the 2000+ blog entries I’ve missed – it seems that the internet doesn’t stop when I’m not reading it! […]
[…] I’ve mostly caught up on the things I’ve wanted to read on the internet now after the big Tiscali outage. A whole bunch of technology stuff has happened not all of which I’m ready to talk about on the blog yet. One thing I’m talking about (to any geek that’ll listen) is OpenMoko. It’s a phone with built-in GPS, USB, linux and a stack that’s as open as possible. Price tag is expected to be $350, hurrah for the two-dollar pound. […]
I had to cancel my Tiscali broadband in November 2006. I got a letter saying that the tag was to be removed in 10-15 days. But this never happened. I called them back again to hear the same frustrating story that an order as been placed for me and to wait for another 15 days. I want to get my service with BT and BT is waiting for Tiscali. I am a home worker and I badly need my internet connection. Its been nearly 3 months now, my problem still is not solved and I am jobless . I am really disgusted with the way Tiscali work. Now they telling me that there might have been an error on my line, so wait for another 10 days and phone back to get an update. Can you imagine???? Everytime its a different excuse with them! Its just laziness I will say. When people are trying to get connected with them, then it takes a week but for disconnecting – as if it will never happen for me. People out there, mind Tiscali. I was looking for the cheapest but it has now cost me a lot more.
Nihad,
You have my sympathy – your issues with them sound identical to the ones I had. In the end I discovered that phoning them was a waste of time – try writing them (increasingly nasty) letters! Good luck.
Just to balance things up I hope my positive feedback keeps my karma on an even keel.
I’ve been with Tiscali since day 1 (2002… I think – when they bought Tinyworld anyway) and apart from 1 overnight outage I have been happy with their service… OK with the exception of their supposed Customer Services telephone services.
Maybe I’m one of the lucky ones and maybe living within half a mile of a county digital exchange helps.
Don’t let me down Tiscali.

Tried to migrate to Tiscali at beginning of October and promised I’d be online with them 24th October. Nothing happened for 2 months and despite £10 of phone calls got nowhere. Whoever I spoke to made promises. No one told me the same story about the perceived problem. I’m now convinced that Tiscali train their call centre staff in the art of lying because that’s what I experienced. Tesco aka Virgin Media, have been the most efficient throughout my time with them, they even call back when probs can’t be resolved after 5 mins on phone. No one at Tiscali had the courtesy to do that despite their promises. Their current high profile adverts mean nothing, they just can’t deliver what they offer. The ASA ought to take them to task for this, but won’t
very interesting, but I don’t agree with you

Hi
It was a nightmare to leave AOL, I changed to tiscali and even worse many clients have tried to contact me and their messages are not getting through and my messages are not getting through to them, this has happened on several occassions. At one point I lost business because there was a period of time when tiscali were having problems. I do not recommend them at all, AOL were better, however, it seems that AOL and from what I can gather Tiscali are very difficult to leave, I believe it is deliberate to trap you into staying because you won’t want the hassle.
